INFORMATION FOR DOCTORS

BECOMING A DOCTOR IN UK

The demand for doctors is rising globally, and the UK is no exception. If you're looking to advance your career, now is the perfect time to apply.

In the UK, doctors work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, private practices, and research institutions. They may specialise in areas like cardiology, dermatology, neurology, or paediatrics. Some pursue surgery, while others focus on preventive medicine or public health.

To become a doctor in the UK, you must complete a medical degree from a recognised institution, followed by foundation training to gain practical experience in different specialties. After this, you can undertake further specialty training, which may take several years to complete.

To practise medicine in the UK, you must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), ensuring you meet the required professional standards and prioritise patient safety.

DOCTOR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

As part of the registration process, you must pass the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) examination, or alternatively, the OET or IELTS with an overall band score of 7.5. You will also need at least two years of experience in a hospital setting. The PLAB test evaluates your clinical skills and medical knowledge, with two distinct parts.

The demand for doctors in the UK is high, offering numerous job opportunities across the country. The National Health Service (NHS), the UK's publicly funded healthcare system, is the largest employer of doctors, while private healthcare providers, research institutions, and universities also offer exciting career prospects.
